Team Coaching & Facilitation

Build a high-performance team that delivers results and meets your organizational goals.

Whether you lead an intact work group, a cross-organizational team or a remote project team, team coaching helps build the key skills that drive high performance: communication, problem solving, decision making and conflict management. It also develops greater individual and group awareness and strategies for collaboration.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Have you had a wave of new team members and need everyone aligned again?

Are members of your team pulling in different directions?

Does managing a hybrid team have you second-guessing the leader you thought you were?

When it’s time to decide, do you end up stuck in the spin cycle?

These are a few of the situations I work through with teams. The goal of team coaching is straightforward: better performance, effectiveness, and results. But the work itself is nuanced, focused, and built for your team specifically. No two engagements are the same.

What team coaching actually is

This isn’t a one-time team-building exercise, a facilitated meeting, or a training workshop, though any of those can be useful along the way.

It’s a series of working sessions where we hold two things at once. We pay attention to the work getting done, and to the way the team is doing it: the dynamics, the group process, the things being said and the things that aren’t.

It asks for time, commitment, courage, and real work from you and everyone on the team to build habits that make collaboration sustainable and results-oriented.

Typical engagements last 6-12 months.

How it works in reality

I coach you and your team in real time, while you’re doing real work. You might see me stop the action to ask you, as the leader, a single question, so you can register what’s happening and choose your next move more deliberately. I might ask the whole team to step back and notice how they’re functioning in that moment. I’ll offer observations, feedback, and the occasional tool, like a clean model for giving feedback or a structured way to make a decision, to close a specific gap.

I draw on Tuckman’s stages of team development, team fundamentals from The Wisdom of Teams,  and the Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team frameworks, held lightly, and used only when they serve you.

The 5Ten Approach

We’ll start with a conversation about your team’s strengths, development needs and challenges, and your organizational culture. I’ll explain how team coaching works, what it asks of everyone and the frameworks and assessments I use. We’ll discuss your questions and concerns to determine whether we’re a good fit. From there, I’ll design a coaching engagement and deliverables specifically for your team.
